Many men comment that everything seems to be centred around mum. They would like to know what to expect, and have more opportunities to ask questions.

Dads have told us that they would like to meet up with other dads and would like more information about pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent.

I'd like information about the simple things.... How to bath baby safely, feeding, changing nappies etc.

We have developed some workshops for expectant dads living in Basildon, Castle Point and Thurrock.

Due to Covid-19, we will be running the workshops online via Zoom. Check our Events page here for courses.

The topics covered are:

Relaxation for you and your partner (a session for you both)

  • Benefits of relaxation during labour and birth
  • Breathing techniques
  • Positions for labour and birth
  • Simple massage techniques

Labour and birth. (Dads only)

  • What happens during the different stages of labour
  • Awareness of how your partner may respond to her contractions
  • Looking at practicalities during the weeks leading up to the birth

Changes ahead and Practical baby care (Dads only)

  • Prepare for changes you may experience as a new dad
  • Explore the impact a new baby can have on a relationship
  • Address concerns you may have i.e. financial, coping with tiredness, work/family life
  • Gain an understanding of emotional wellbeing and what support is available locally
  • Nappy changing, bathing and safe sleeping
  • Feeding and winding

Each online workshop lasts for 1.5 hours. Attending all 3 workshops is highly recommended.  It’s best to attend when your partner is 30+ weeks pregnant.

Check out our events page for the next expectant dads workshops in your area.
